Do you buy an existing home or build exactly what you want? This is often a dilemma that people have when trying to find an existing home that checks all the boxes. They will often choose a home they aren't satisfied with, just because it is already built and they don't want to go through the stress of building. But is building stressful? The answer is, it is what you make it. Yes, building your home can take longer than purchasing what is already there. There are always expected issues that might come up when building your home. This can be delayed timelines due to weather or things that come up that weren't originally expected. How to avoid the stress? Just roll with the punches. There is always a solution for every outcome. It is also advised to remember that you hired professionals to build your home. Let them take on the stress, as they have the experience to navigate through the building process. Another good lesson is to know that what you see on the internet, might not actually look the same or work in reality. I often am given these beautiful photos and "great ideas" that clients find on certain design websites. The first thing to know is that these flawless photos have been photo-shopped. Or the "great ideas" might end up not being the best material used for that area and can deteriorate over time. It is important to use a builder and/or designer that knows the trade and can let you know the pros and cons of what you find. It's better to know this in advance, then build it and be dissatisfied in the end. It is also beneficial to have your builder help you create the building plans in the beginning. Having a builder overseeing the drafter, can help prevent issues in design flaws before they start. Anyone can be a builder, make sure you find one that has experience, is educated in the field and is willing to help you along the way. If you follow these tips, you will have a much more enjoyable process. It's worth it to get exactly what you want in a home.
